Effective July 1, 2025, Microsoft is discontinuing the Microsoft 365 Business Premium and Office 365 E1 grant offers for nonprofits. This marks a significant shift in Microsoft’s Tech for Social Impact (TSI) program, aimed at simplifying their grant portfolio and aligning nonprofits with secure, scalable cloud tools.
What’s Changing?
-
The Microsoft 365 Business Premium grant and Office 365 E1 grant will end at each nonprofit’s next renewal after July 1, 2025.
-
In their place, Microsoft will offer:
-
Up to 300 free licenses of Microsoft 365 Business Basic
-
Up to 75% discounts on other Microsoft 365 plans, including Business Premium and E1
-
-
Large nonprofits (300+ employees) can still access up to 2,000 Office 365 E1 licenses through an Enterprise Agreement
What Should Nonprofits Do?
-
Review your current licenses: Check your renewal date and plan ahead
-
Explore Business Basic: It includes essential web/mobile Office apps, Teams, email, SharePoint, and 1TB OneDrive
-
Consider Business Premium: Offers desktop apps, AI, advanced security, and device management
-
Act before expiry: There’s a 30-day grace period post-renewal before licenses deactivate, with 60 additional days before data deletion
- Spread the News: If you work with or know a charity, let them know, so they can plan ahead
