Business Continuity

The current Covid-19 pandemic has caused massive changes in the way we work, with most office-based staff working remotely where possible, and at very short notice. Was your company prepared? Did you experience significant disruption? Could the transition have gone more smoothly?

What is Business Continuity?

Business Continuity often goes hand in hand with Disaster Recovery and are two components used to make your business more resilient.

Business Continuity is used to identify all the potential risks your business may face and develop a plan so staff know what to do, and to minimise disruption to your business while it is returning back to normal operations.

Disaster Recovery is usually technology focused around restoring functionality to core business systems in the event of a disaster occurring.

Both should encompass not only technological issues (server failure or Internet outage) but also physical issues (office out of commission).

How could a Business Continuity plan have helped prepare for Covid-19?

As one of the identified risks, “an office out of commission”, a number of plans and policies could have been put in place:

  • An equipment purchasing strategy, i.e. laptops and docking stations rather than desktops.
  • Remote working guide could have been produced and staff training undertaken.
  • Regular testing of working from home could be implemented.
  • The creation of a flexible working policy allowing staff to work from home X number of days a week and creating familiarity to the process.

This is just one recent example of the many possible scenarios that can significantly disrupt your business.

How can Kriston Technology help?

Having carried out numerous Business Continuity planning sessions with clients we have a quick start process we utilise to identify the key risks and the potential impacts common to most businesses, thus allowing us to focus on your specific business risks and impacts.

By working with representatives from all aspects of your business we can identify your key risks, the likelihood of occurrence and the impact to the business, and develop mitigation plans for each into a Business Continuity plan.

The Business Continuity plan produced is a living document, that should be regularly reviewed, either annually or along with any significant change in your business.
